Did you know that Vasaloppet is the world’s oldest and biggest ski race? The classic 90 km stretch from Sälen to Mora has historical roots dating back in 1521 when Gustav Eriksson fled the Danish king to lead the uprising against the occupation forces.
He eventually united the realm and became Sweden’s king, better known as Gustav Vasa.
The first Vasaloppet race took place in 1922 and today there are sixteen different races; cycling, running and cross-country skiing, that together attract 100,000 registered participants every year.
Mediatec has been a proud supplier for the event for many years and this year we operate one large 81 sqm mobile LED screen in the starting area in Oxberg, one 50 sqm mobile LED screen at the starting line in Sälen, and two 25 sqm mobile LED screens in the finish area – all to ensure the best visibility for participants and audience.
As part of the global NEP group we are proud of the fact that the Swedish broadcaster, SVT, relies on the united forces of NEP the Netherlands and NEP Sweden to bring the footage to the television audiences across Europe.
As the competition winds across snowy fields and forests NEP use more than 30 cameras on helicopters, aeroplanes and snowmobiles along the track to cover every inch of the Vasaloppet ski race.
All the cameras are interconnected in a large IP based network and fed to one of NEP’s largest OB units roughly halfway along the track, where the program is mixed and distributed to Stockholm and further out in Europe.
The competitions take place Feb 22-March 3, 2019, best of luck to all participants!
