President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker at this year’s South by Southwest festival and talked about civic engagement with the editor-in-chief of The Texas Tribune. The massive five-day music festival kicked off on Friday with the SXSW Interactive, an annual tech festival dubbed ‘Spring Break for nerds’. Obama arrived about 30 minutes late after making a pit stop at Torchy’s Tacos. Obama explained his visit to the crowd as wanting to instigate a collaboration of technological minds with the government. This year host of celebrities, tech founders, film directors and even the president will be in attendance at this year’s SXSW. Friday also happens to be the funeral of former first lady Nancy Reagan.
